More Treasury funds for rapid resettlement of remaining IDPs
The government has spent over Rs.1 billion to address the problems of those displaced by the war in the North and East since the LTTE’s defeat in 2009, Resettlement Ministry Secretary Uthpala Basnayaka yesterday told the Daily News.
He said, the ministry has resettled 99 percent of the 272,000 war displaced in the North and added that they will declare an early end to the process.
There are still 2020 displaced families in the Menik Farm welfare village in the Vavuniya district, and another 1,000 families in Sampur in the Trincomalee district.
The Ministry is taking steps to rapidly settle them.
