Resettlement speeds up in Mullaitivu
(Daily mirror Monday October 26,2009)
Resettlement in the Mullaitivu District continues speedily, the Information Department website said quoting authorities. The launching of the resettlement in the district took place recently under the patronage of Chief of the ‘Uthuru Wasanthaya’ Task Force and Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa on the directions of the President.
The ‘Uthuru Wasanthaya’ Task Force recently launched the resettlement in Mullaitivu under Basil Rajapksa’s patronage. 4,415 families comprising more than 16,000 members were resettled in the Oddusuddan, Manthai East and Thunukkai Divisional Secretariat Divisions. All of them were given dry rations for six months. Each received a 5,000-rupee allowance in addition to a permanent deposit of 20,000 rupees.
Mullaitivu was a terrorist stronghold. Their administrative activities were centred on this town. As such a majority considered that capturing it would be a dream. However, the LTTE was wiped out and only buildings devastated by the terrorists were left. They had mined the area. The Government discharged an uphill task to remove the mines. It succeeded in surmounting the challenge.
